Privacy Policy

The short version

You do not need an account. We never ask for your location. The time zone calculations happen inside your browser, so the places you compare are never sent to us or to anyone else. We do not sell data, and we do not build profiles of visitors.

What we do not collect

• No names, email addresses or passwords — there is nothing to sign up for.
• No GPS or precise location. The browser’s location permission is never requested.
• No record of which countries or cities you compare. That calculation runs on your device and the result never leaves it.

Your time zone

To pre-fill the calculator, TimeGap reads the time zone your device already reports to every website — for example America/Santiago. This is a setting, not a location lookup: it identifies a region covering millions of people, and it is read locally by JavaScript. It is not transmitted to our servers, and you can change the selection at any time.

What is stored in your browser

TimeGap saves two small preferences using your browser’s local storage, so the site behaves the way you left it:

• Whether you prefer the 12-hour or 24-hour clock.
• The list of cities you added to the World Clock.

This data stays on your device. It is not a cookie, it is not sent anywhere, and we cannot read it. Clearing your browser data removes it.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they find useful. It records aggregate information such as page views, approximate country, device type and referring site. We do not use it to identify individuals, and analytics is only active when it has been configured — if you see no cookie banner and no analytics cookie, it is not running.

Google’s handling of this data is covered by their own privacy policy. You can opt out with their browser add-on or by using any tracker blocker.

Advertising

TimeGap is free, and we intend to cover its costs with advertising. The spaces reserved for it currently show a placeholder and load nothing. When real advertising is switched on, third-party ad providers may set cookies or similar identifiers to measure and select ads, and this page will be updated to name the providers involved before that happens.

Ads will never be placed where they can be clicked by accident, and they will never cover the calculator.

Your rights

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the GDPR gives you the right to access, correct, export or delete personal data held about you, and to object to its processing. If you are in California, the CCPA gives you comparable rights, including the right to know what is collected and to opt out of its sale — we do not sell data to anyone.

In practice we hold no account and no personal record of you, so there is usually nothing to export or delete. If you believe otherwise, write to us and we will look into it.

Children

TimeGap is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If what we do changes — most likely when advertising or analytics is enabled — this page will be updated and the date at the top will change with it.
